London is known as one of the world’s best cities for exciting nightlife. But some bars have become so mainstream that you might feel some of the glamour has ebbed away.

Fear not, because London is home to plenty of secret bars waiting to be discovered.

The Natural Philosopher in Hackney is an intimate bar seating no more than 45 people at a time.

They’re themed around natural remedies and use foraged ingredients to make their cocktails.

All their cocktails are priced at £9.50, making them surprisingly reasonable for London.

You’ll find unique cocktails on the list, like Avocado Leaf: Reyka Vodka, avocado leaf, Regal Rogue Lively White Vermouth, heritage carrot and Cava all served in a wine glass.

If you want something with more savoury notes, try the Black Garlic, made with Courvoisier Cognac, Maraschino, sweet vermouth, black garlic and oak smoked salt water.

And for something as mysterious as the bar itself, check out the Dandelion Root made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, dandelion root, agave and oat.

It’s coloured the darkest black and will make you feel proud of having found London’s coolest bar.

The Natural Philosopher also has a strong focus on community and operates a ‘pay it forward’ scheme where guests can buy a drink for the next table when paying their bill.

The Natural Philosopher was one of five London bars to make it onto the list.

Others included the Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town, the Discount Suit Company, Ladies and Gents Cocktail Bar and Opium.
